Equal parts soul-filled scientist, inspired educator, and nature therapist, Karen Gordon has dedicated 30 years to restoring landscapes and facilitating transformative nature-based experiences. Her work as a restoration ecologist spans the fjords of the North Atlantic, the vibrant reefs of the Caribbean Sea, the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, and the cloud-forested peaks of Costa Rica.

As the founder of the Center for Sacred Ecology and steward of the 40-acre Samanea Nature Sanctuary in Monteverde, Costa Rica, Karen creates spaces where nature inspires & informs the awakening human spirit. Central to her practice are prayer, nature immersions, and ceremony — which she seamlessly integrates into her life & work, fostering deeper connections between individuals & the environment.

In addition to her leadership in Costa Rica, Karen contributes her expertise to preserving Peru’s natural & cultural heritage. As a key associate at the Association for Research of the Peruvian Amazon, she supports the Montegrande project, working to protect this cultural heritage site and its ancient cacao varieties — living descendants of the cacao found in the 6,000 year old temple.

Karen’s work emphasizes ecological conservation and the safeguarding of indigenous traditions. Karen’s unique blend of science, spirituality, and education makes her a transformative force in ecological restoration & environmental leadership. Her lifelong dedication continues to inspire individuals to cultivate a profound respect for the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world.
